Tit for Tat

Is "tit for tat" ever good in a relationship? How can it help or hinder the relationship from growing?

  1. It can help a relationship grow in the sense that both will be doing things for each other. But at the same time it's good to do things for your partner and not expect it to be done back. It just shows you aren't being selfish are there for them.

  2. "Tit for Tat" is never good in a relationship and will only hinder it due to the fact that "Tit for Tat" comes off as a competition. When two people are in a relationship, they should want to do things for their partner to show their partner that they care and not because their partner did something good for them. The best gifts are the gifts that come from the heart whether they're mentally, physically, or financially from within. When a person expects something from their partner because their partner gave them something will only take away the element of suprise and if you're partner doesn't return the gift with equal or more vaule then your feelings would be down due to the "anticipation factor". The "anticipation factor" is when somebody gets their hopes high because they expect something, and it doesn't go as planned. Few things happen planned and many things happen unplanned, so you never know what your partner will or will not bring to the table, so a person should do something from their heart to put a smile on their partners heart with no look to get anything in return, but thank you. "Tit for Tat" can be very selfish, very competitive, and not to mention, unspontaneous which can hinder a relationships growth and excitement.
