Breaking Up

How can/should a person break up with their partner?

  1. I do not think there is any easy way to break-up with a partner. The best thing to do is to tell the person the truth sooner than later and do it respectfully without yelling and screaming. Be firm and direct! Speak in a calm voice and if the person is hostile, do it over the phone. Reframe from calling or seeing the person after the break-up as that will lead them to believe you still want to be with them or you are confused.

  2. Nobody ever breaks up with their partner out of the clear blue. There are always ongoing problems that led up to a break up, so once a problem occurs, it should be handled immediately.

When someone isn’t happy in their relationship, they should tell their partner why they no longer want to be in a relationship with them and what’s specifically wrong.

1)Tell your partner why you are unhappy.
2)Tell your partner you want more.
3)Tell your partner your ultimate goal in a relationship.

Express to your partner that he/she is no longer the one in your eyes and that every relationship needs to continue to grow and your relationship has stunted its growth.

Although following these steps and telling your partner in a polite way that you want to end the relationship, no one takes a breakup easy, especially when they’re in love. When you realize that you’re no longer attracted to and want to be with your partner, you should express your feelings to them immediately and not prolong them until you’re ready to breakup with them. If you don’t tell your partner when something immediately goes wrong and wait until you’re about to breakup with them to tell them how you felt all along, it will only cause them to go through a terrible heartbreak which is never needed nor wanted.
