YES. There’s nothing wrong with a couple going on a double date as a first date. It will actually break the nervousness a person may have and each person will also see their potential partner in a social event and see how they handle themselves which can prepare them for the future.
A double date can be successful for a potential couple, but it will be more successful if the couple blends in as a group and have some alone time as well. Balance is important when a couple is on a double date.
