I don't think it's a male or female thing. I think it a people thing. Nobody, male or female are working hard to build on relationships. Nobody wants to fight for it.
Men AND Women are responsible for relationships being unsuccessful.
Men are responsible for NOT being upfront with women and telling them how they feel. Women then fall for men and get their hearts broken. Since women are emotional people, they then live with their broken hearts and take it to their next relationship, but the next time around, they don't always give their all because they don't want to get hurt again.
Women are responsible for NOT knowing their worth. Once a woman knows what she's worth, she then won't put up with a man's "bs" and follow her heart. Women tend to think they can either change a man or have to stay in a relationship because they've been through a lot together which isn't true.
JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR PARTNER HAPPY, YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY FIRST.
Overall, relationships are unsuccessful in today's age because hardly anybody trust one another because of what they've been through. Some people need to let go of their past, so they can be able to see into the future.
